Šibenik, Trogir, Split, Zadar, Dubrovnik
We offer trips to the historic centers of our cities on the Dalmatian coast. Šibenik, Zadar, Split ,Trogir or Dubrovnik are an unavoidable destination for every tourist.
Šibenik is town in Northern Dalmatia, located at the mouth of the Krka River at the Adriatic Sea. It is the capital of Šibenik-Knin County and the oldest Croatian town on the Adriatic coast, mentioned for the first time in 1066 in a document written by King Petar Krešimir IV and therefore often called “Krešimir’s Town”. Šibenik has 2 UNESCO sites (St. James Cathedral and St. Nicholas Fortress) and that makes him unique in world, because only few cities in world have 2 UNESCO sites. The official status of a town assigned in the 13th century was also the main reason for the construction of its main symbol, the Cathedral of St. James, a celebrated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Šibenik is also often called “The City of Children”, as it has been hosting the renowned International Children’s Festival for almost 60 years.
Visiting four Šibenik fortresses – St. Michael’s, Barone, St. John’s and St. Nicholas – offers a truly distinctive experience.
Šibenik was also a filming location for Game of Thrones.
Šibenik offers a delightful blend of history, culture, and natural beauty, making it a perfect destination for a day of exploration. Whether you’re indulging in culinary delights, embarking on outdoor adventures, or simply soaking in the Mediterranean ambiance, Šibenik promises a memorable and uncrowded experience for all, travelling solo or with your friends
Zadar historically known as Zara (from Venetian and Italian, pronounce, is the oldest continuously inhabited city in Croatia. It is situated on the Adriatic Sea, at the northwestern part of Ravni Kotari region. Zadar serves as the seat of Zadar County and of the wider northern Dalmatian region. The city proper covers 25 km2 (9.7 sq mi) with a population of 75,082 in 2011, making it the second-largest city of the region of Dalmatia and the fifth-largest city in the country.
Today, Zadar is a historical center of Dalmatia, Zadar County’s principal political, cultural, commercial, industrial, educational, and transportation centre. Zadar is also the episcopal see of the Archdiocese of Zadar. Because of its rich heritage, Zadar is today one of the most popular Croatian tourist destinations, named “entertainment center of the Adriatic” by The Times and “Croatia’s new capital of cool” by The Guardian.[7]
UNESCO‘s World Heritage Site list included the fortified city of Zadar as part of the Venetian Works of Defence between the 16th and 17th centuries: Stato da Terra – Western Stato da Mar in 2017.[8]
Trogir is a “museum town” whose entire historic core has been under UNESCO protection since 1997. This Dalmatian gem is located on an islet between the mainland and the island of Čiovo, and is adorned with one of the best-preserved Romanesque-Gothic ensembles in Central Europe.
Main attractions
St. Lawrence Cathedral: The most important monument with the famous Radovan’s portal from the 13th century, a masterpiece of Croatian medieval art.
Kamerlengo Tower: A Venetian fortress on the southwestern edge of the city that offers panoramic views of the old town and the sea.
City Loggia and Clock Tower: Located on the main square (Trg Ivana Pavla II), they once served as a courtroom and public gathering place.
Ćipiko Palace: A complex of palaces of the noble Ćipiko family with richly decorated triforias opposite the cathedral.
Riva: A spacious promenade along the sea, ideal for evening walks with numerous restaurants and cafes.
The story of Split is already 17 centuries old, dating to the time the Roman Emperor Diocletian decided to build his Palace right on the peninsula near the great Roman city Salona, where he wanted to spend the last years of his life. During these 1700 years the Palace slowly turned into a city, which to this day lures with its rich tradition, glorious history and beauty of its natural and cultural heritage.
Split is much more than glorious architectural scenery. Split is also a venue for excellent gourmet and vine experiences, numerous cultural happenings like film and theatre festivals, exhibitions, excellent museums and concerts, a city which offers eclectic modes of entertainment starting with numerous clubs and bars, through street festivals to events such as Ultra Europe Festival visited each year by up to 100 thousand young people from around one hundred countries of the world. Split with its sport results is something only a handful of cities of similar size around the world can boast about as it is the home of a dozen Olympic medal winners as well as other sports medals.
Also very unusual to find in a city the size of Split are the numerous beaches with extraordinarily clean sea, from the well known Bačvice to the stone secluded oases’ all around Marjan.
After all that’s said are you at all surprised that citizens of Split have a saying “There is no place like Split”?
Dubrovnik the ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’, situated on the Dalmatian coast, became an important Mediterranean sea power from the 13th century onwards. Although severely damaged by an earthquake in 1667, Dubrovnik managed to preserve its beautiful Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque churches, monasteries, palaces and fountains.
Medieval history meets breezy Mediterranean vibes in Dubrovnik, where towering stone fortresses rise from the sparkling Adriatic Sea. Walk along the ancient walls that surround Old Town to get a sweeping view of the city dotted with monasteries, palaces, and terracotta rooftops. Or, hit the beach: Most are pebbly and rugged, but if you’re looking for a stretch of sand, hop on a ferry and head to Lopud, a car-free island where you can kick back on Šunj beach, grab a bite in the village, or check out Lopud 1483—a restored 15th-century Franciscan monastery. HBO series Game of Thrones used Dubrovnik as a filming location, representing the cities of King’s Landing and Qarth.
Parts of Star Wars: The Last Jedi were filmed in Dubrovnik in March 2016.
